Are you ready for change?

You know you want transformation, but are you ready to commit?

What is an addiction?

Addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition characterised by the inability to control the use of a substance or engagement in a behaviour, despite it causing harm. It involves a compulsive need, or craving, and loss of control that can lead to physical and psychological dependence. Addiction can be to substances like drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes, or to behaviours such as gambling, shopping, or internet use.

I can work with you on any addiction, and if you prefer to call it a craving, that is your preference.

What is your ultimate goal?

Do you want total abstinence? Substance use reduction? Harm minimisation? What is a realistic timeframe to achieve this goal? Remember, if you have been in this pattern for years or even decades, there is a lot to unravel. Being clear about a realistic outcome is paramount to success.

Are you willing to do some deep inner work to hold space for the parts of you that are holding you back?

Yes, you will need to be ready to face your blocks and fears. While EFT is a gentle and trauma-informed practice, and your safety is a priority, you may have to look at some uncomfortable truths about yourself and perhaps the people around you. EFT is NOT talk therapy; we work predominantly with events, emotions, and the nervous system through the mind/body connection. Some techniques let you avoid speaking altogether if something is too painful to say out loud. However, the lightness you will feel after shedding some of this heavy stuff will be well worth it.

Are you willing to be made accountable?

Addictions (or, if you prefer, habits or cravings) can also be called "Ritualised Comfort Seeking". You may need to go through some discomfort and do your own tapping practice as homework during our time together. The more work you put in, the better the results will be.

Do I need other supports around me?

As EFT is not a clinical therapy, it is vital to have professional support available. For instance, for some people, quitting alcohol, a medically supervised detox is required. EFT can change patterns of behaviour; however, it takes a support network to ensure mental and physical safety. You will be screened beforehand to ensure you have adequate support, ie, psychological support, a regular and trusted GP, or other health professional.
